Save the River Red Gums
Save the River Red GumsLast year the NSW Government promised that the river red gums of NSW would be protected by national parks, but late last week Environment Minister Frank Sartor announced that nearly 20% of the trees -- some 16,000 hectares - will be logged for 5 years to come. These mighty trees, so crucial to our nation's largest river system, will become railway-sleepers and firewood unless we stand together to protect them. The Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett has the power to intervene and protect the forests - if the River Red Gum forests are deemed to have national environmental significance. Ask Peter Garrett to step in and save the River Red Gums by declaring them a matter of 'national environmental significance' - just use the form below to send him a message. Please refer to the panel on the right for more information about River Red Gums. Please send a personal message, even if it's a short one. |
