The Rudd Government announced their first Budget this week yet severely missed the opportunity to address vital climate change issues, instead continuing to fund polluters with over $3bn worth of subsidies per year to fossil fuel industries.
As reports emerge highlighting
the need for urgent action on climate change to slow global warming, GetUp is urging members to use the billions of dollars worth of tax cuts outlined in the Budget to
fight climate change.

The Prime Minister has announced that next week's Federal Budget
will not be another 'one-year wonder' but instead aim to address long-term problems, including inflation.
GetUp is pushing hard for this budget, delivered on May 13, to be the world's first climate change budget, beginning with removing the billions of dollars worth of subsidies to the polluting industries.

The Head of the UN Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) has signaled the possibility of
reaching a world climate change pact by the end of 2009 if the current momentum on the issue is upheld.
Mr Pachauri stressed the importance of ensuring a global deal to cap greenhouse gas emissions by 2015 and halve them by 2050 in order to limit global effects of climate change.
The Australian Government will release the 2008 Budget on May 13th outlining, amongst other aspects, their spending on efforts to combat climate change.
