Stand up to bullying

Kevin Rudd is bullying our Pacific neighbours to accept a deal at Copenhagen that would wipe their nations off the map.

That earned Rudd and Australia the inglorious 'Fossil of the Day' Award at Copenhagen, as the country doing the most to secure a bad outcome.

Call Kevin Rudd and tell him that's not on. Check out our talking points and the numbers to call on the right. You can even go the extra mile (or 10,000 miles) and call the PM in Copenhagen.

It's important to use your own words, but here are some points to consider:

  • The media are reporting that Rudd has been bullying Pacific leaders.1

  • He is telling them to stop calling for a limit of 350ppm for CO2 in the atmosphere, and a limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius in global temperature rises.

  • The science is telling us that these limits are what is needed to stop dangerous climate change.

  • Instead, Rudd is bullying them to call for a limit of 450ppm and 2 degrees Celsius in global temperature rises.

  • That would be a death sentence for the Pacific islands. It's bullying them to sign away their own survival.

  • Australia should join its Pacific neighbours and their demands for a binding treaty with limits of 350ppm and a target of 1.5 degrees.

  • Rudd should raise Australia's (woefully inadequate) targets to the maximum 25% by 2020 and increase the amount of finance for a global climate change adaptation fund.
