Equal Before the Law

For the last year we've been busy liaising with key decision makers, writing letters to every MP and Senator and visiting politicians face-to-face to urge them to grant same sex couples the same legal rights as de facto couples.

The laws that would do so are currently before Parliament, but some are trying to frustrate the process. Sign the petition below to ensure equality for all of us:

Dear Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition,

Same sex couples should have the same legal rights as de facto heterosexual couples.

I call upon you to make this first step towards equality by immediately legislating to end discrimination against same sex couples.

Equal Before the Law

Over 70% of Australians support the call to give same sex couples the same legal rights as heterosexual de facto couples, as does every State and Territory and most of the developed world.

This issue is a matter of simple fairness - giving all Australians their due entitlements regardless of the nature of their relationships.

The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission last year reported on their year-long inquiry into discrimination against same sex couples, which found official discrimination in over 50 different laws.

Finally, laws to address this discrimination are before Parliament, but some opposed to removing the discrimination are trying to introduce amendments to delay the bill. Sign this petition today to help see this campaign through to its conclusion.
