Olympic silence is not golden

Thank you for your continued support in this campaign. The Olympics are upon us - and this ad is booked to be shown either side of the Opening Ceremony. We can't let the issue of Tibet be swept under the rug of Olympic fervour. Silence on the issue from the international community on the issue now will be interpreted as acceptance of the current situation.

These Olympics were designed to welcome China to the international community. But many fear the Olympics have led to a tightening of restrictions, not an opening of dialogue. This is a crucial time for the community of nations to hold China to the promises they made on human rights issues in order to secure the Games.

We have sent the PM a copy of the ad, and he has pledged to raise human rights issues in Beijing - a great victory for supporters of human rights around the world. We're planning more ads as the Olympics continue, to make sure that after the games the world does not shift its gaze away from the issue.
