A medical association
has warned the number of overseas doctors wanting to work in Australia has reduced by 90% thanks to the treatment of Dr Haneef and the government bungling of his case.
The group, in a joint statement with an Indian doctors’ association, has said the massive drop in numbers is exacerbating the health crisis. Kevin Andrews denied his handling of the Haneef fiasco was to blame, instead blaming the state health systems.

Despite always claiming he made his decision to revoke Dr Haneef's visa unrelated to the court proceedings against him, Kevin Andrews
has been exposed as having a secret political plan.
Emails obtained by Dr Haneef's legal team show that the decision to revoke the visa was in fact a 'contingency plan' between the Federal Police and the Immigration Department, if Dr Haneef was granted bail.
This sorry chapter is flushed with political interference subverting our normal legal processes, and that should worry us all.

Dr Haneef's case may become an election issue yet -- the Federal Court setting the appeal
hearing date in either late October or early November, timing it to coincide with the most probable election dates.
The Government appealed the decision that found Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews was wrong to cancel the doctor's visa, and the Minister vowed to take it to the High Court.
But this attempt to play politics with fears of terrorism may well backfire with an inopportune and poorly timed court case set to once again find the Immigration Minister in error.

The Federal Government
has lodged an appeal against the Federal Court decision to return Dr Haneef's visa.
The Judge ruled that Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews was in error when he cancelled the doctor's visa, stating that parliament couldn't have intended to enact a law that allowed a minister to oust a person for having an innocent association with someone suspected of criminal conduct.

Yesterday the Federal Court quashed the Immigration Minister's cancelling of Dr Hannef's visa, today Dr Haneef's lawyer
has released the transcript of the doctor's second police interview.
The interview, which the Minister used selectively as evidence as to Dr Haneef's guilt, shows in fact that the police had little cause for concern over the doctor's activities, and reinforces the claim that the Government had more politically expedient motives at the heart of their decision.
