Cut Gunns' credit line

UPDATE: In May ANZ announced they will NOT be funding the mill - a major success for all involved! However Gunns are still seeking both national and international sources to finance the mill - the campaign continues so stay tuned!

The ANZ Bank still hasn't approved finance for the Gunns pulp mill in Tasmania and the credit crunch is making them particularly nervous.

The old Government failed us by granting the controversial mill approval and the new Government has done little better but without a financial backer the project cannot go ahead!

Tell Mr Smith, the new head of ANZ, your concerns about the mill so he can make the right decision and cut Gunns' credit line!

If you are an ANZ customer, shareholder or staff member, please let ANZ know in your message.

UPDATE: We've reached our goal of 15,000 letters in less than 20 hours - help us reach our new NEW target of 35,000! 32,101 have joined this campaign - help us get to 35,000.

We have achieved 91.72% of our goal. Let’s keep going!

Dear Mr Smith,

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the potential financing of the Gunns Ltd Pulp Mill in the Tamar Valley.

I am surprised that the ANZ would consider financing such a project considering it is a signatory to the Equator Principles and has a good reputation regarding its commitment to socially responsible investment.

The proposed pulp mill is a major threat to Tasmania's pristine environment and economy. It will wreak havoc on the tourism, fishing, agriculture and wine industries in the area, and do untold environmental damage. Independent economic analysis even shows, contrary to Gunns' claims, that the mill will destroy more jobs and wealth than it creates. It will substantially increase greenhouse gas emissions and mean more clear-felling of Tassie forests.

In this context, the ANZ has a clear choice either to urge Gunns Ltd to build an environmentally friendly chlorine free mill that is based on 100% plantation timber in a location that is supported by the local community, or to not agree to finance this mill at all - in accordance with your commitment to environmentally and socially responsible investment.
I look forward to your reply.
Regards,

(your name)

No Pulp Mill

Friday, 1 May 2009

Thanks to overwhelming support the No Pulp Mill ad ran in yesterday's edition of the European Financial Times and has been receiving national media.

With our $120,000 target reached we can now extend the ad's run into Asia, reaching more potential investors.

But we need to keep it going - this ad works as banks are worried about people seeing their logo on it. The more we raise the more people we can show this ad to - chip in now to help stop the pulp mill by getting it shown in The Australian.
