The LatestStop Deceiving Women
14 September 2007Posted by The GetUp Team, September 16th, 2007
Senators Natasha Stott Despoja (Dems), Judith Troeth (Lib), Carol Brown (Lab), and Kerry Nettle (Greens) are working together to promote and ensure informed choice for women and their loved ones - but they need our help to build momentum and support inside the major parties.
Call, email or fax the Minister and Shadow Minister for Health now to express your support for this Bill. It's about closing a legal loophole that currently allows service providers to engage in false advertising if they don't charge for their advice. It's about protecting the basic right to seek help, information and support that best meets and respects a person's individual needs, rather than being subjected to a counsellor's own undisclosed agenda. It just takes a minute to write an email, but building this support inside the major parties is crucial. Thanks for speaking up! 13 June 07 (1)Posted by The GetUp Team, June 13th, 2007
Why does transparency in pregnancy counselling matter? Today, the cross-party alliance of women senators is hosting a forum inside Parliament House to explore this issue, and bolster additional support for the Truth in Advertising Bill.

The cross-party Bill before Parliament for truth in advertising for pregnancy counselling services needs the backing of the major parties, who have been under pressure not to support it.
They've been receiving an equally strong message, however, from GetUp members urging them to stand up for truth in advertising. Now Shadow Health Minister Nicola Roxon has responded to GetUp members indicating her support for transparency in pregnancy counselling advertising. That means we're making real progress. The ALP is "currently examining the details of the Private Members Bill", so now more than ever we need to show our support. Contact the key decision-makers now, to ensure your voice is heard on this vital issue. 11 May 07 (1)Posted by The GetUp Team, May 11th, 2007
The campaign to support truth in advertising for pregnancy counselling services is gaining momentum, with another peak Australian medical body today joining the call to support the legislation before Parliament.
The Australian Psychological Society issued a statement calling for measures that ensure women are fully aware of their options. For more information on the issues involved, read a recent article on the legislation here. 24 April o7Posted by The GetUp Team, April 24th, 2007
