We did it!
In 2014, GetUp members fought tirelessly to stop brutally unfair Budget measures from becoming a reality this year. And we've done it!
Check out this video of the amazing Bon Voyage Budget media event that capped off a sensational year of campaiging against the Abbott Budget (you can also watch the full speeches from the event, below).
On the lawns of Parliament House, uni students, nurses and a passionate crowd of GetUp members waved goodbye to a giant barnacle-covered Budget boat, and delivered more than 10,000 "Good Riddance!" postcards to Prime Minister Abbott, creating a media frenzy in the process.
The GP co-payment ended in political farce, the 6 month Newstart waiting period is stalled in the Senate and university fee deregulation was voted down, all as Parliament wrapped for the year!
Yet still, the Abbott Government refused to let go. So in an unmistakeable show of united opposition, with political leaders from the Greens, Labor and Palmer United, we waved a powerful farewell to the Abbott Budget.
