No defense for sexism

This is bigger than politics – this is about respect.

Last Thursday, Senator David Leyonhjelm slung a degrading sexist slur at Greens Senator, Sarah Hanson-Young during a debate on violence against women.

All over the country, every single day, women are subjected to sexist harassment, bullying and violence. Sexism needs to be called out, whenever it occurs, and sexist bullying in the workplace is never ok, whether a woman works in a factory, an office, or in the Australian Parliament.

We expect our elected representatives to demonstrate leadership in our community. That's why now, more than ever, members of Parliament should reach across the political divide and take a stand against sexism.

Will you join the call on Parliament to demand Senator David Leyonhjelm withdraw his comments and apologise?

To the Honourable Members of the House and Senate,

We call on you to come together to:

  • Demand Senator David Leyonhjelm publicly withdraw his comments to Senator Hanson-Young and apologise without reservation.
  • Support a motion to censure Senator David Leyonhjelm if he fails to take responsibility for his own behaviour in Parliament.
