Breaking our promise to the poor
Right now, Australia currently dedicates one third of one percent of our national income to overseas aid. At the last election the Government promised to increase that to one half of one per cent by 2015.
Today, there are worrying front-page media reports that the Government's 'razor squad' is considering breaking that election promise by cutting Australia's promised increases in aid.
It would be a broken promise worth $1.6 billion - a sum World Vision estimate could save 800,000 lives if spent on emergency life-saving measures1.
We could see lives lost not because of any event beyond our control, but because our politicians thought no one would notice.
Please join the campaign before it is delivered to the Government next week!
