Detention Disgrace
Onshore processing is now government policy, but our detention system is broken and exacting a huge financial and human cost. Monday night ABC's 4 Corners showed harrowing footage of individuals and families languishing in immigration detention, and on Wednesday news broke that our immigration detention system claimed another victim: a 27 year old Sri Lankan man who'd been detained for 2 years, despite being granted refugee status.
It's clear that our politicians can no longer ignore our broken processing and detention system - what Australian of the Year, Pat McGorry, has called "mental illness factories."
It's time to speed up processing times and stop arbitrary and lengthy detention. It's time to ensure that there are no more victim's of Australia's detention disgrace. Add your name to the call on the right.
