We did this together

Well that was quite the election.

For the GetUp community, this was our biggest effort ever: over 6,000 volunteers handed out 2.4 million scorecards at 820 polling booths, while another 500,000+ were viewed online just on election day. TV and online ads, funded by your small contributions, brought vital information to approximately 4.5 million voters.

This story deserves to be told and remembered, because what you did is incredible.

Now we stand together and face a new political world. In some ways it matches long standing predictions, but there's been plenty of surprises too (... the Sports Party?!) and lots of questions about what happens next.

Now more than ever we need to rally together to stand up for what we believe in - and when we do - we won't be alone.

On election day GetUp commissioned a poll to find out what issues voters had in mind as they put this new government in power. Yes people voted for a change in government, but the research shows Australians are still in favour of stronger action on climate change, still opposed to coal facilities in the Great Barrier Reef and will fight against funding cuts to the ABC.

We are a progressive country, with a conservative government. Right now, is the time to step up.

Our movement has always been at its strongest in the face of adversity and this is our time to do what we do best: finding new and powerful ways everyday Australians can pool our voices, creativity, resources, and passion to win a brighter future.

Whatever comes next won't be easy, and there will be many more ups and downs. But right now, the GetUp movement is larger, more vibrant and energised than it's ever been. No matter what comes next, we're in it together.
