Australia must not follow the US into war
Over the weekend, Donald Trump launched a massive bombing campaign on Iran's nuclear sites — a dangerous escalation that risks dragging the world into a wider war. And once again, Australia is under pressure to fall in line behind the United States.
We've seen this before. In Iraq. In Afghanistan. And we've seen what it costs — lives lost, communities shattered, trust broken.
Now, we face a choice: repeat history, or stand for peace. Australia must not be complicit in another unjust war. Not with troops. Not with bases. Not with silence.
We call on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong to:

Now, we face a choice: repeat history, or stand for peace. Australia must not be complicit in another unjust war. Not with troops. Not with bases. Not with silence.
We call on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong to:
- Publicly oppose any Australian military involvement in a US-led war with Iran
- Condemn all military escalation and push for diplomacy and international law
- Commit to a peaceful, independent foreign policy that puts people before war
- End Australia's complicity in war-making through bases, exports, and alliances
- Redirect military spending to the real needs of our communities.
When Donald Trump bombed Iranian nuclear facilities, the world was pushed to the edge of a wider war. And as always, Australia is being asked to fall in line.
But we've seen what that leads to. Decades of violence, destabilisation, and grief — while people at home struggle to afford housing, healthcare, and safety. War doesn't just happen "over there." It fuels racism, drains public resources, and undermines our freedoms right here at home.
That's why we're demanding a clear commitment from our leaders: No troops. No bases. No silence. No war.
This campaign is a call to action for all of us — to speak out for peace, push for diplomacy, and remind decision-makers that the people of Australia won't be dragged into another unjust war.

GetUp was founded in the aftermath of the Iraq War — a war Australia joined despite mass public opposition and false justifications. That betrayal sparked one of the biggest anti-war movements in Australian history. From that movement, GetUp was born.
Our million-people powered movement was created to hold power to account, to amplify the voices of everyday people, and to push for justice when politicians fall short.
Today, those same patterns are repeating. The language of "pre-emptive strikes." The silence from our government. The deepening military ties through AUKUS and US bases on Australian soil.
But just like in 2003, people are rising up to say: not in our name.
This campaign continues GetUp's long history of standing for peace, dignity, and democracy and against the destructive pull of endless war. We're here to remind our leaders: our future is worth more than bombs and alliances. It's time to choose peace.
