Recent polling shows that 6 in 10 Australians support abolishing negative gearing, including a majority of Labor voters and those under 50.2

In fact, even current homeowners are on board – 73% of those who own outright and 69% of those with a mortgage would welcome a slight drop in property values if it meant making housing more affordable for future generations.

This is a major shift in public sentiment over the last decade. More everyday people in this country overwhelmingly believe that having a roof over our heads is a right, not just an investment, and they're looking to the government to take action.

The message is clear: people are ready to back policies that make real housing reform happen. Now, it's up to us to ensure Labor knows the public is behind them.
