Stop Price Gouging

Supermarket giants are making "eye-watering" profits – while we struggle to afford the basics.

Coles just posted over $1 billion in annual profits. Woolies? Even more – $1.39 billion. And their CEO had the audacity to call that "disappointing." Meanwhile, everyday people are paying $10 for eggs, $5 for bread, $8 for a small bar of chocolate – with some staples jumping 30–50% in just a few years.

These record profits aren't going to the farmers who grow our food or the workers who stock the shelves. They're lining the pockets of corporate executives — like Woolies' former CEO who pocketed a $24 million payout. For an average Woolies worker, that would take hundreds of years of shifts to earn.

And it's not just sky-high prices. These corporations have been caught red-handed with sneaky tricks like "shrinkflation" (smaller packs, same price) and fake "discounts" that actually hike costs.

Enough is enough.
For decades, Coles and Woolworths have tightened their grip on Australia's food supply. Controlling more than two-thirds of the grocery market, they set the rules for what producers get paid and what shoppers are charged. This duopoly leaves families, farmers, and small retailers with little choice, while locking in record profits for the corporations at the top.
Right now, the government is under pressure to act. The ACCC has put forward practical steps to rein in unfair supermarket practices, but unless the community demands follow-through, the reforms risk being watered down under industry lobbying. Every day of delay means more families pushed towards poverty and more power consolidated in the hands of Coles and Woolies.
When everyday people come together, we can shift the balance of power. We've seen it before: people-powered campaigns have forced governments to regulate predatory industries, strengthen workers' rights, and hold corporations accountable. By signing this petition, you're joining thousands of others to show the government that voters expect real action.
