Will you be an Election Leader?

Studies have shown that 1 in 10 voters won't make up their mind who to vote for until election day. They'll be be deciding who to vote for during the short walk from their car to the ballot box on election day. And GetUp members will be there when they do.

Together we can multiply our impact. If each one of us looks after a few polling booths in our community, and helps to organise other GetUp messengers, together we'll be able to put scorecards that rate the major parties' policies into the hands of millions of voters.

So what's really involved?

Our election day leaders will be taking on a big job with a big impact. You'll be responsible for:

Taking responsibility for 3-4 polling booths in your area. We've identified the most strategic locations across the country and if your application is successful, we will contact you to confirm your booths shortly.
Connecting with GetUp members: A big part of your role will be keeping in contact with GetUp Election Messengers who want to help out distributing scorecards, and rostering them on election day.
Attending an online training with GetUp HQ, so you've got the skills to move forward.
Picking up and distributing t-shirts signs and scorecards to your booths for election day.

How much of my time is this going to take?

There are five weeks until election day, which means our election leaders will be working with tight deadlines. But we've done our best to make the process as easy as possible, meaning it's definitely feasible to have full-time work or family commitments, and be involved. Here's a quick timeline:

Over the next week or two, you'll only need about one hour a week.
In week three and four, you might need two or three hours a week, to contact and confirm volunteers for your booths.
In the final week, you'll need around four hours to complete your final check-lists, as well as election day (Saturday, 7th of September) free.

I've never done anything like this before with GetUp!

That's ok! This is a great chance to get more involved with GetUp and your community ahead of the federal election. You'll be able to meet great, passionate people in your area, and learn a lot about what it takes to bring together a team. It's going be a lot of fun!
