Call Mines Minister Lynham
Adani's bid to build the massive Abbot Point coal port on the Great Barrier Reef, dredge millions of tonnes of seabed in Reef waters and build Australia's largest ever coal mine has never looked shakier.
The coal giant have suspended work on their massive Carmichael coal mine, amid speculation that they may be preparing to abandon the project altogether.1
One person who remains supportive of Adani is the Minister for State Development, Natural Resources and Mines, Dr Anthony Lynham MP. Even as Adani lool like they're getting ready to cut and run, Dr Lynham has been progressing dredging plans at Abbot Point.2
Minister Lynham's support makes it so much harder for us to stop Adani. But if we apply enough pressure, we have a great opportunity to make sure Dr Lynham does the right thing and consigns this disastrous project to the dustbin of history.
Can you schedule a call to Minister Lynham's office and help convince him this project is toxic? Now is a crucial time for Dr Lynham to hear that Queenslanders don't want Adani in our state.
Minister Lynham's office: (07) 3719 7360.
UPDATE:
Minister Lynham's office is trying to deflect people off to another number. If this happens to you, you can say that you have definitely called his office intentionally to express your displeasure.

- Ring ring - A staffer will answer the phone. If you don't get through straight away, wait a moment and then try again.
- Introduce yourself - Who you are? Where you live? What do you do?
- Explain the reason for your call - Tell the staffer that you want to raise some concerns with Dr Lynham about Adani's coal projects, and Dr Lynham's continued support for Adani.
- Share your story - Explain why you are concerned about the project (we've provided some talking points below). If you have a personal story to share (like you want the Reef to be around for your grandkids to see) then please share that too.
- Ask for a committment - Ask the staffer if their office will committ to standing up for all the ordinary Australians who don't want this project to go ahead, and for Queensland Labor to uphold their election commitments to protect the Reef. They may or may not commit, but this will send a clear message that you're serious about holding them to account.
- Say thanks! - Thank them for taking the time to listen to you, and ask them to please pass your message onto Dr Lynham.
Remember to be polite!
However, if there's an issue you know more about, or a particular issue that concerns you, feel free to talk about that instead.
Here's a list of concerning recent developments that you might want to raise with Dr Lynham:
- Major economists keep telling us the project is unviable. Adani still don't have State or Federal approval for the mine and port and they still don't have an approved plan for dredging millions of tonnes of World Heritage Area seabed.
- Adani face other hurdles that make the project's future look shaky. Eleven major investment banks have vowed not to fund the project. They face multiple legal challenges, including one from the Wangan and Jagalingou people - Traditional Owners of the Galilee Basin.
- Adani told contractors to freeze all work. Adani told all it's contractors to immediately stop preliminary work on the project. It looked for a moment like they might be getting ready to abandon the port and mine all together. Instead, it appears like a high-stakes, desperate move to pressure the Queensland Government into fast-tracking approvals and providing the miner with favourable conditions.
- Adani Treasury scandal. Explosive documents exposed under Freedom of Information show that former Premier Campbell Newman and former Planning Minister Jeff Seeney had ignored grave warnings from its own Treasury who repeatedly told them Adani's project didn't stack up.
- Queensland Labor came to power on a mandate to save the Reef. They promised they would not allow any dredging to happen at Abbot Point before financial close, and not to allow any taxpayer funds to be used to support Adani, or allow any royalty holidays for Adani. Does Dr Lynham remain committed to all these promises?
Wow you've got to be quick to beat all those other people that love the Reef. But that's OK, just call whenever you want!
