#ReefReels
ENTRIES NOW CLOSED! Thanks for your #ReefReels Films. Winners announced soon!
What is #ReefReels?
#ReefReels is a short film competition launched by GetUp! to motivate and encourage filmmakers and environmentalists alike to create short films with a focus on the issues currently surrounding the Great Barrier Reef.
The process is easy – create a short film under 3 minutes that will empower the world to get behind our Save The Reef campaign! You'll be able to submit your film here from October 10th till November 30th, share your film with your friends and family via our provided link, and be in with a chance to win $10,000 cash and have your film screened at Tropfest on Sunday 7 December 2014, to a live audience of over 100,000 viewers!
Morgan Spurlock, creator of Super Size Me will be leading our judging panel, so your films will surely be seen by some of the biggest eyes in Hollywood!
GET INSPIRING – We need to raise awareness for our Save The Reef Campaign – and now! Use your voice to encourage others to make a change and empower the world with your short film!
GET SHORT – Be short and snappy by telling your story in 3 minutes or less.
GET SHARING – Get your friends and family involved by sharing your film – we'll send you a YouTube link once it's been uploaded and ready to go!
GET PASSIONATE – submit a film that gets to the heart of the issues surrounding the Great Barrier Reef - but don't worry, we don't need a visual depiction of the Reef itself!
GET MOTIVATED – Raise awareness for the Great Barrier Reef by asking your friends to join over a quarter of a million Australians in signing the petition to save the reef – or maybe even help them make a film themselves.
GET CREATIVE – we want to see all kinds of films – animation, drama, documentary, photo series – as long as The Reef is at the heart of the film.
You can submit your film right here! Entries open on October 10th and close on November 25th, so get filming!
Fame, fortune, and bragging rights for helping to save the reef! If that's not enough, our winner will be taking home $10,000 cash! A selection of films will be screened at Tropfest, the world's largest short film festival, on 7th December 2014 to a crowd of over 100,000 viewers! One lucky winner will have their film screened during the intermission of the main Tropfest event. Further prizes and opportunities will be announced soon, so stay tuned!
Finalists of the #ReefReels Competition will be announced by December 2nd 2014. An overall winner will be shown on the night of Tropfest, the world's largest short film festival, in Centennial Park on 7th December 2014 in front of a live crowd of over 100,000 viewers! All Finalist Films will be shown throughout the day at Tropfest.
No, there is no entry fee for #ReefReels!
Your film can be about anything you'd like – as long as you include the Great Barrier Reef. Your film should inspire people to make a difference and encourage others to take action and help save our reef too!
We want to see all sorts of films! If you like making dramas, comedies, advertisements, music videos, musicals, documentaries, animations or more, #ReefReels is for you! Get as creative as you want!
There is no limit to the amount of films you are able to create – feel free to submit as many films as you'd like!

Of course! If your film is relevant to the cause, feel free to enter #ReefReels! Make sure it is your film, though. While Finding Nemo is pre-existing and does mention the reef it's definitely not under three minutes and is probably owned by Pixar (Note to Pixar: feel free to submit an under 3 minute version).
Yes! We'd love to see entries from all over the world. Heck, the Great Barrier Reef can be seen from space. If you're an alien and enjoy the view, you're also welcome to submit.
