Don't risk the RET

The Labor Party has boldly walked away from weeks of negotiations with the Government over the future of Australia's renewable energy industry. This is good news, but it's not over yet.

As it currently stands, the RET aims to ensure 20 per cent of electricity will come from renewable sources by 2020. But the Government is lobbying to cut this target by around 40 per cent, which Labor rejected.

The uncertainty created by the Government's attack on the RET is already having a devastating impact on business, with a report showing investment in the renewable energy industry has dropped this year by a staggering 70 per cent.

The longer the Coalition Government leaves the future of renewables in the balance, the more the industry suffers.
