Let's cover Doha with billboards of Tassie Forests

The so-called "Australian Environment Foundation", founded by anti-environment think-tank, the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA), has been lobbying the World Heritage Committee, urging members to remove Tasmania's ancient forests from the prestigious World Heritage listing. To make matters worse, they are pretending to represent the Australian environment movement.

With the future of Tassie's forests on the table at the Committee meeting next week in Doha, Qatar, we need to set the record straight. We need to send an urgent, unmissable message to all delegates -- and what better way to do so than with dozens of billboards surrounding the Doha airport and conference centre.

We managed to find a great last-minute rate and can get the billboards for $583 each, but with the conference taking place next week, we need to lock them in fast. Our aim is to buy 60 billboards so that they're everywhere the committee members turn.

Can you chip in to cover Doha with images of Tassie's beautiful forests and help set the record straight?

If you donate $583 (the cost of one billboard) or more, we'll send you a photo and a map showing you its specific location in Doha! Please note that delivery may take up to six weeks and this offer is only open to Australian residents who pay by Credit Card.

This is our billboard:

GetUp! Save our Tassie Forests, Doha Billboard
The "Australian Environment Foundation" sounds like a friendly, credible group of conservationists -- you might expect such a group to have a cute leafy logo and run brilliant campaigns to protect stunning old-growth forests. Their misleading branding couldn't be futher from the truth. Rather, they're a collective of climate sceptics, deforestation enthusiasts and conservative spin doctors. Besides fighting against our forests, they support cattle grazing in national parks, claim our Reef is healthier than ever, and are "of the firm view that there is no evidence to support a significant link between CO2 emissions and global warming".

Their deceptive name is allowing them to claim they are credible, "rational environmentalists" - we can't let them get away with it. If we move swiftly we're certain that we can drown out their lies – because we are 2000 times bigger than they are. The "Australian Environment Foundation" are reported to only have 120 supporters, while the total sum of people campaigning to maintain Tassie's World Heritage protection adds up to over 6 million world-wide. Yet even with their tiny supporter base they've already managed to have a huge impact and create significant confusion – we need to respond, fast.
Agreed!

This campaign is much bigger than just this tactic. We've partnered up with some of the largest environment organisations, like the Wilderness Society and the Australian Conservation Foundation, to deliver some massive campaign tactics.

The campaign to ensure the Doha conference maintains forests protection includes:
  • A 250,000+ strong person petition
  • Thousands of letters to Her Excellency, the Chair of the Committee
  • A handout included in the offical delegate pack for the conference
  • An official delegation into the negotiation room
  • Stunts, rallies, media and more to come!

These billboards are one chess piece of a complex strategy worked on for months and months. But we know that we need to take this campaign to a new level, and ensure that Doha is saturated with our message and no one will miss it. We must do everything we can, for the forests.
We want to buy all 60 of these strategically placed billboards, and they're only $583 each - can you chip in to guarantee that our message can't be missed by international negotiators?

WILL YOU CHIP IN?

We want to surround the Doha airport and conference centre with 60 billboards that show the real beauty of Tasmania's forests.

Each billboard is $583 and if enough people chip in we can buy them all so that delegates can't miss our message.

Please note! The special thank you offer is only available to Australian residents who pay by Credit Card.
