The Wangan and Jagalingou people are the Traditional Owners of land in Queensland where mining giant Adani want to build their massive Carmichael coal mine. Wangan and Jagalingou are opposed to the mine for the irreparable damage it will do to their land and culture.

|Adani has been exposed for what it is - a ruthless, greedy operator with an atrocious human rights and environmental record. It wants to build one of the biggest coal mines in the world in Queensland - a project that means shipping millions of tonnes of coal through our precious Great Barrier Reef every year. To finance the project, Adani still needs around $10b in funding - and the Big 4 Australian Banks are the most likely to make it happen. Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, ANZ, and NAB could be all that stand between Adani and our Great Barrier Reef.|
Will you ask your bank to rule out the destructive project for good?
The Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement
The Dirtiest Deal you've never heard of
|Right now 12 countries, including Australia, are negotiating the biggest international trade deal you've never heard of. The Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) will give multinational corporations the power to sue our government for decisions they claim impact their investments in Australia. Sound too scary to be true? It's already happening. Watch the video explaining why Prime Minister Abbott is so eager to keep this one under wraps, then sign the petition and sound the alarm|
Refugees and Asylum Seekers
Citizen Funded Journalism
|When in opposition, Shadow Immigration Minister Scott Morrison would cry "boats" as loud and as often as he could. But now the Abbott Government has cast that shadow over their asylum seeker policies. Already more than 4,700 people have donated to fund high quality independent journalism, dedicated to finding out what happens inside our detention centres and stories of the people confined within them, but we need ongoing support to continue the work that's already started.|
Can you chip in to help put an end to the secrecy?
Media Access Denied
Journalists are being referred to federal police for "unauthorised disclosure of information" relating to immigration policies, and the media has been forbidden access to Government-run facilities, as part of a deliberate attempt by the Immigration Minister to suppress any information about the government's notorious offshore detention centres. If Immigration Minister Peter Dutton truly has nothing to hide, he should immediately grant the media access to Manus Island and Nauru, and not seek to persecute journalists for disclosing unfavourable information.
Will you call on the Immigration Minister to uphold press freedom and grant media access to Australia's detention centres?
Our National Shame
It's clear the Government is failing to ensure even the most basic of care for asylum seekers on Manus Island and Nauru. Earlier this year, violence on Manus Island left one man dead and 62 people injured. Meanwhile on Nauru, a report that was never meant to be seen by the public, reveals the dire state of healthcare available to asylum seeker children, babies and pregnant women inside the Nauru detention centre. It is shameful that we are still sending people to these detention centres when we can not guarantee their safety, or their health. |
Will you join the campaign calling on Immigration Minister Peter Dutton to put an end our nation's shame?
|The Human Rights Commission report on children in detention provides disturbing evidence of the harm inflicted on children in detention, with kids as young as 12 exposed to high degrees of violence, committing acts of self-harm, and experiencing significant mental health problems. Now that we've heard the evidence, we need to get it out there – because while many of us know about the harm detention causes, there are many more who don't even realise this is happening. Will you speak up to call for the release of all children and their families from Australia-run detention centres?|
|With the Abbott Government's next Budget on the horizon, GetUp members are getting on the front foot of the fight for economic fairness by launching a savvy fairer Budget campaign. Together, our progressive vision for Australia will highlight the ways our Government can reform the Budget, without putting the burden on students, pensioners and working families. Will you join the fight for fairness?|
The end of public education?
A leaked government paper has revealed a proposal by the Abbott Government to end Commonwealth funding of public education and make some parents pay to send their children to a public school. These changes, if passed, would represent the end of our world-class public education system as we know it.
Stand up against these changes - sign the petition now.
Tony Abbott's plan for US-style universities
Education Minister Pyne splashed a casual $15 million on a desperate TV ad campaign and has been harassing the Senate crossbench for months – but no one is buying his controversial higher education package. And no wonder, given it would mean 100K degrees and a lifetime of debt for students.
The Senate looks set to chuck out this legislation once and for all, but we'll need one last push to kick deregulation for good. Sign the petition to send a clear message to keep education affordable for all.
Australia's top companies are forgoing billions in tax each year, with nearly a third paying less than 10 cents on the dollar. While Treasurer Hockey has acknowledged the need to do better, he's failed to take real action. We need to turn the Government's words on corporate tax dodging into action. Because when corporations don't pay their fair share, we're the ones who pick up the tab.
Tell Treasurer Hockey to make corporate tax dodgers pay their fair share now
We Made History
| On September 21, tens of thousands of Australians took part in the global movement the media are calling "the largest ever climate march in history". It was a powerful message to world leaders that echoed around the globe, demonstrating that we - the people- are up for confronting the challenge of climate change. |
Take a look at the video of the day that we made history.
Australians for Climate Action
Over 97% of climate scientists say that climate change is occurring and is human induced. The science is now unequivocal and deserves respect from our government. We're asking for stronger, meaningful climate action, which is in the national and global interest.
Switch to a better energy company today
Right now, more than 70% of Australians get their electricity from AGL, Origin and EnergyAustralia - three of the biggest polluters in the country, with all three supporting or funding CSG and coal-based power. But the good news is we can use our power as consumers to switch to a cleaner, greener, low-cost alternative and help support Australia's renewable energy future. |
Ready to switch to an affordable, alternative power company and send a message to the Origin, EnergyAustralia and AGL that we won't stand for companies that invest in fossil fuels? Make the switch today!
A Bold Proposal
|In exciting news, crossbench Senator David Leyonhjelm has introduced a Freedom To Marry bill which, if passed, will see an end to Australia's marriage discrimination. But for this legislation to have any shot of passing, Prime Minister Abbott must allow his MPs a free vote, rather than being bound by party line. Will you call on the Liberal party to allow a conscience vote on same-sex marriage?|
Have you seen the marriage equality lovestory? Millions watched it and shared with their friends and family, helping to spread the word worldwide. Now let's make sure Australia puts marriage equality into law.

Coal Seam Gas
Stop CSG in the Great Artesian Basin
Australia's lifeblood - the Great Artesian Basin - is under threat from Santos' coal seam gas projects. A new report has confirmed Santos' Narrabri CSG project "could be enough to stop bores flowing throughout the basin, which is the sole water source for towns and farms across 22 per cent of Australia." Any risk to this water supply is simply unthinkable and unacceptable.
Sign the petition calling on NSW Premier Mike Baird to halt the unbridled expansion of the coal seam gas industry
Stop fracking in Gloucester
AGL's coal seam gas project in Gloucester has been shut down following a major environmental breach. Hazardous BTEX chemicals (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes) were found in the water of two of AGL's wells. AGL discovered the chemicals on January 15, but failed to report them until almost two weeks later.
It's simple. We can't trust AGL.
Sign the petition to AGL's CEO and ask him to shut down their Gloucester operation immediately
Don't Risk Coal Seam Gas
What do Australian farmlands, healthy families and drinking water all have in common? They're all under threat from unregulated coal seam gas mining. GetUp members from NSW and QLD have bravely shared their story of what it's like to live in a community affected by CSG mining
